Green vs. blue hydrogen: independent & impartial insight

The argument of what “colours” of hydrogen should be used to enable the energy transition is a divisive subject among many clean hydrogen experts.

While all the colours of the hydrogen are covered by the service, our focus areas are on green and blue hydrogen:

Generated by an electrolyser that uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, green hydrogen is where we’ve seen the greatest technological advancements over the last 5 years: it’s becoming bigger, cheaper and more efficient.

When you couple this with the increase in quantity of renewable electricity in grids across Europe, the economics of producing green hydrogen is continually improving, making clean hydrogen cost-effective in an increasing number of sectors. However, even in the best conditions, it isn’t yet cost-competitive compared to fossil fuel alternatives.
