Delta-ee recently completed a consultancy piece for the Energy Systems Catapult looking at the integrated home energy landscape as it relates to heat pumps. In our work, we covered many aspects related to the integrated home heating market as well as the heat pump market supply chain. Here I discuss where we see this space is going.
Currently, many connected home devices and heating systems are siloed in their operation and are not fully interoperable. It often requires effort to integrate different parts of the system by homeowners or professionals. This is likely to change in the future.
Mostra MCE is a biennial trade fair in Milan covering heating, cooling, water and energy – while having a strong focus on the Italian market, it’s a major international event. Maria Synodi from our Connected Home team and I had the opportunity to visit and we enjoyed meeting many of our subscribers and industry contacts there (and also escaping from the snow in Edinburgh!).
In this short blog we share some of the things we learnt, and hope you find it useful. As always, we welcome your feedback and questions so please feel free to contact us directly.
Last year, Delta-ee’s Heat Insight Service established its first Customer Panel – a representative sample of up to 1,000 private homeowners. The aim was to provide answers to the questions that heating manufacturers, energy suppliers and policy makers have for their customers. This helps them to improve engagement and understand their target market in more detail.
A key question we are often asked is, ‘what are the opportunities and impacts for my business in the new energy landscape’? Our Electrification of Heat Research Service has recently looked closely into this question for the UK from a variety of perspectives; and we’ve identified a number of key insights into the growing convergence between the heat and electricity sectors.
The heating market is changing. New, lower carbon systems are emerging, and disruption is occurring in the traditional value chains. The industry is at an exciting – and challenging – point in its evolution, with many different pathways it could take into the future.
Through our Delta-ee Gas Heating Service, we are helping companies understand what this future could look like. On Thursday July 13th, we will be holding our public webinar: “Beyond the boiler: how is the future for gas-based heating emerging today?” – click here to register.
In my last blog I talked about the five factors that are starting to drive disruption in heating markets, which we’ll be unpicking at our European Heat Summit in early June. Now I’m going to focus in on how these five factors will drive changes in the traditional route to market of manufacturer -> wholesaler -> installer -> customer.
